EFFICACY

ClaritineTM (loratadine) may provide more effective early symptom relief than fexofenadine.1

Reduction in average daily reflective symptom score, day 2

1. Kaiser, H. B., Gopalan, G., & Chung, W. (2008). Loratadine provides early symptom control in seasonal allergic rhinitis. Allergy and asthma proceedings, 29(6), 654–658.

The daily differences in motivation between ClaritineTM and cetirizine groups were consistent over the 7 days of the study.1

The use of ClaritineTM in patients with AR is associated with GREATER MOTIVATION during the workday than the use of cetirizine. Statistically significant difference in motivation between the ClaritineTM and cetirizine groups were noted at 10:00 AM (p = 0.014), noon (p = 0.001), and 3:00 PM (p< 0.001), indicating that patients taking ClaritineTM were relatively more motivated.1

#Motivation was assessed using a visual analog scale ranging from 1 = fully motivated to 10 = not motivated at all. Assessments made at 8:OO AM, 10:00 AM, noon, and 3:00 PM for 7 days were pooled, and a mean (± SEM) score was calculated for each day.1 qd: Once daily; AR: Allergic rhinitis.

The use of ClaritineTM showed GREATER IMPROVEMENT than placebo in daytime nasal symptoms score and night-time symptom score.1

THE WHOLE DAY EFFECT

The effect of ClaritineTM will last a whole day and should help allergic rhinitis patients to continue their normal daily activities and sleep.1

TOLERABILITY

After single recommended doses, cetirizine is sedative and impairing whereas ClaritineTM is not.1

Cetirizine 10 mg possesses acute sedative activity. It significantly impaired driving performance (p <0.02) and caused marked feelings of drowsiness during driving.1

1. Ramaekers, J. G., Uiterwijk, M. M., & O'Hanlon, J. F. (1992). Effects of loratadine and cetirizine on actual driving and psychometric test performance, and EEG during driving. European journal of clinical pharmacology, 42(4), 363–369.

The differences in somnolence between ClaritineTM and cetirizine groups were consistent each day and did not diminish over the 7 days of the study.1

#Somnolence was assessed using a visual analog scale ranging from 1 = wide awake to 10 = extremely somnolent. Assessments made at 8:00 AM, 10:00 AM, noon, and 3:00 PM for 7 days were pooled, and a mean (± SEM) score was calculated for each day.1 qd: Once daily; AR: Allergic rhinitis.
